About Me

I’m a CS/MIS graduate, with system administration, architecture/engineering, and DevOps experience in non-profits, private industry, and higher education.

You can reach me at or via LinkedIn. I also have GitHub page.

My History

I learned keyboarding on Macintosh in elementary school. My parents bought our first computer when I was in middle school. I first began programming in QBasic during high school. I learned Unix via Mac OS X in college. I did a stint as a Windows admin during the Great Recession, and promptly moved to Linux thereafter. Now I have a tattoo of Tux.

  • Maintaining extensive documentation using wiki services such as DokuWiki, PmWiki, and Confluence
  • Coordinating client requests, issues, and projects using ticket systems such as Request Tracker and ServiceNow
  • Programming in Python, Bash, and PHP (intermediate/advanced levels) using the “Git Flow” model
  • Building and maintaining LAMP/LEMP stacks; administering SQL-based DBs; generating and installing SSL certs
  • Architecting AWS infrastructure; utilizing VPCs, ELBs, EC2 instances, RDS, amongst others
  • Maintaining a homelab for learning and development (e.g. Plex, NextCloud, hosting Linux repositories, managing storage, monitoring, web hosting, etc.)

  • On-call responsibilities for 24x7 steady-state operations included monitoring for incident response, weekly NetVault tape backup rotation and offsiting, providing tier II and III support for clients, patching and upgrading servers and appliances
  • Leveraged Puppet for configuration management, integrating Forge modules for existing infrastructure and services, authoring modules with Hiera for custom solutions, deploying using Capistrano under a development → qa → production model
  • Standardized on the Heroku platform to replace in-house RHEL 5 web hosting; managed user/site migrations
  • Upgraded legacy MySQL platform to a modern MariaDB infrastructure with multi-master replication and backup
  • Administered NetApp FAS series storage running ONTAP 8 for hosting big data and VM storage
  • Installed the VMWare vSphere 5.5 application suite for managing 100+ virtual servers across several ESX hosts
